EnOcean Alliance members show the way to artificial intelligence in smart homes at CES 2015

Connected living solutions of tomorrow for energy savings and comfort based on the green technology of energy harvesting wireless control

San Ramon, CA/Las Vegas, NV – December 10, 2014 – The international CES is the place to be to experience innovation. Products and solutions, presented at the show floor of CES 2015 (January 6-9, Las Vegas), will significantly influence our living of tomorrow. Our homes play a major role. They will interact with us and automatically adapt to our needs before we are even aware of them. At the show, the EnOcean Alliance members EnOcean (Sands-74876), Ubiant (Sands-75483), ID-RF (Sands-75552) and Digital Airways (Sands-75569) demonstrate how this is becoming a reality based on energy harvesting wireless technology.

The EnOcean Alliance is a consortium of more than 350 companies worldwide, which develop and promote products and systems based on the EnOcean energy harvesting wireless standard. The Alliance’s aim is to make buildings more energy-efficient, comfortable and secure.

EnOcean (Sands-74876) – energy harvesting wireless technology

EnOcean is the inventor and market leader in energy harvesting wireless technology. Miniaturized energy harvesters power radio communication by collecting energy from the surrounding environment such as the press of a switch, indoor light or temperature differentials. Due to this, sensors and switches, integrating this technology, do not need batteries or maintenance while offering high flexibility in system planning and implementation. At CES, EnOcean will show the diverse possibilities of batteryless wireless technology to power radio communication in different frequency bands for intelligently connected homes.

Ubiant (Sands-75483) – Hemis, intelligent, self-learning cloud solution

Ubiant, a creator of smart building solutions, demonstrates its self-learning cloud solution Hemis. It is based on artificial intelligence to minimize energy consumption in buildings while maximizing the tenants‘ well-being. The system’s core is a cloud platform which connects applications for lighting, HVAC or blind control as well as batteryless wireless sensors, actuators or mobile devices. The Quickmove standard allows users to install, move or remove all components of the smart home system using a NFC-enabled mobile phone or tablet.

Hemis understands its environment by collecting and analyzing data in real time, such as temperature, humidity, brightness, CO2 and human presence. It learns the tenants‘ behavior, takes account of a building’s unique attributes, predicts situations and manages complex scenarios or changing situations completely autonomous. Based on this information, the solution instantly defines the best-fit scenario to strike the right balance between energy efficiency and personal comfort.

ID-RF (Sands-75552) – NodOn home automation

ID-RF, a French manufacturer of design smart home solutions, introduces its NodOn home automation suite to the North American market. NodOn’s innovation and design award winning products are currently sold via most European home automation e-tailers and will be the first EnOcean devices available in the consumer retail market before the end of 2014. The devices communicate bidirectionally via energy harvesting wireless radio in the 902 MHz frequency band. This sub 1 GHz frequency meets regional legal regulation requirements and offers robust performance at an excellent range of up to 100 feet in a building. The NodOn portfolio includes:

– The Soft Remote switch, a wireless and batteryless remote controller. It integrates the EnOcean electromechanical energy converter, which transforms kinetic energy by the press of a button into power for radio signals. The Soft Remote is spill and shock resistant. Due to an embedded magnet, users can fix the switch on the fridge door, for example. The switch controls lights, blinds, plugs or any kind of EnOcean-based device which can be switched on/off or dimmed.

– The Smart Plug. It allows wireless control of electrical devices by using an EnOcean-compliant home automation gateway or a batteryless switch like the Soft Remote. The plug has a slim design for easy integration. Combined with a home automation gateway, it detects power outage to achieve additional energy savings in a house.

– The indoor opening sensor and indoor temperature sensor. Both wireless sensors are solar-powered. The opening sensor detects the status of windows/doors and sends a wireless signal to turn off the heating when a window is opened, for example. The temperature sensor measures the room temperature every 100 seconds and sends a signal when the temperature has changed by more than 0.5 °C/17 °F.

Digital Airways (Sands-75569) – ThingBox, Internet of Things solution

Digital Airways will present ThingBox, its innovative Internet of Things (IoT) project. The project’s core is a download file that can be installed on the Raspberry Pi board. After the installation, users can graphically customize the Raspberry Pi behavior via a web browser to interact with connected things. The ThingBox can easily integrate EnOcean energy harvesting wireless sensors and switches into an existing system, for example. That way, users can transform a simple control system into a smart network of connected things for many different use cases.

Besides these companies, Myfox Home Automation Solution (Sands-71429), which has a strong presence on the retail market in Europe, will present a very innovative alarm system at CES with the ambition to gain access to the American market. Myfox is a member of the EnOcean Alliance and also promotes a smart home solution embedding EnOcean technology.

Additional members of the EnOcean Alliance exhibiting at CES 2015 include: electric Imp (Westgate, Hospitality, Suite 530), Honeywell International (Sands-70637), Murata (LVCC, South Hall 2, MP25955), Toshiba (Westgate, Hospitality, Suite 2730 and 2750) and Texas Instruments (Westgate, Hospitality, Suite 364, 371, 373, 464).

About EnOcean Alliance

Leading companies worldwide from the building sector collected to form the EnOcean Alliance and establish innovative automation solutions for sustainable building projects – and so to make buildings more energy-efficient, more flexible and lower in cost. The core technology of the Alliance is the energy harvesting wireless technology for flexibly positioned and service-free sensor solutions. The EnOcean Alliance aims to internationalize the energy harvesting wireless technology, and is dedicated to creating interoperability between the products of OEM partners. Basis for this is the international standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10, which is optimized for wireless solutions with ultra-low power consumption and energy harvesting. More than 350 companies currently belong to the EnOcean Alliance. The headquarters of the non-profit organization is located in San Ramon, California.
